Hello and welcome!

Somerset Hills Chorus

Somerset Hills Chorus is a Taunton based women's singing group who have a varied repertoire arranged in 4 part harmony (A capella).

The chorus has been singing together since 1992 and we meet at Bishops Hull Community School, Taunton on Thursday evenings from 7.30pm – 10pm.

We are members of Sweet Adeline’s International based in Tulsa Oklahoma, U.S.A. and regularly take part in local and national choir competitions.

As well as staging our own shows we also perform all over Somerset and the surrounding areas at weddings, charity and social events.

Please get incontact if you are interested in booking us or joining our chorus. You can also keep up to date with where and when we will be singing on the Diary page.

Full Houses and standing ovations were the order of the day at our recent show in Wellington.

We delivered two shows on 12 August – an afternoon matinee and an evening performance - both of which played to full houses of very appreciative audiences.

Ably supported by Solo singer Tommy Thompson, Duo Alice and James Gilgrist and TFA Showdance, our “Showtime” provided a wide range of entertainment for the audiences to enjoy.

Tommy sang a number of songs including famous “classics” by Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jnr, and did a beautiful duet with Kirstie our Director. Alice and James sang lovely folk music. Ashley and friends entertained us with some wonderful modern dance and our small group from within chorus sang some of their ballads and up tempo songs.

The show gave us the opportunity to showcase some of our extensive repertoire including a number of new songs and we also sang our convention songs towards the end of the show.

Our good friend “Chalky” Cox compered the shows amusing the audiences with his stories and jokes to much hilarity. We all had a great time and the audience response just spurred us on. A lovely occasion!

We were delighted to welcomed the Mayor and Mayoress of Wellington (Gary and Bee James)and the Mayor and Consort of Taunton ( Hazel and Adrian Prior Sankey) as our guests, also local Councillors Andrew and Jackie Govier.

Our thanks go to our organising committee, the other acts, and Rob on lighting and sound. Tina Poltimore provided all the stage props to create a lovely garden party effect with her husband Henry providing the transport and muscles! Many thanks to them both.

Sweet Adelines International - Gateshead

Saturday 13th May 2017 saw us in Gateshead at the prestigious Sage centre taking part in the regional convention of Sweet Adelines International.

It is a fabulous venue and it was packed with choruses from across the UK and the Netherlands. Fake tans, false eyelashes and glitzy costumes were on display as choruses took their turn to perform for the judges and the audience!

Although one of the smallest choruses taking part we more than made up for that with our performance and were delighted to be awarded the silver medal in the small chorus category.

Director Kirstie says “I am very proud of the chorus and thrilled with our performance in the competition. Both our silver medal and our score reflect the hard work and commitment of each and every member. I am already looking forward to next year!”

Our lovely Kirstie took part in the quartet competition, just missing out on a medal, but was still able to perform in the Champions Concert with her mixed quartet as they had been crowned national champions earlier in the year. We cheered them on from the stalls!

A fabulous weekend!

A couple of weeks beforehand we held a full dress rehearsal in the community hall in front of families and friends and were delighted that the Mayor of Taunton Deane Cllr. Vivienne Stock-Williams and her Consort were able to join us too.

Singing in Bridgwater (November 2016)

We recently performed at the Bridgwater Masonic Hall (a first for us!) when Masons, their wives and partners from the Bridgwater lodges joined forces to present the monies they had raised for charities.

We sang a varied programme of ballads and up tempo songs, listened to the charity presentations on their activities and plans for the donated funds before closing a lovely evening with another wide range of songs.
